My Buddha has finally found its rightful location here in Avondale Estates, Georgia. After decades of traveling across several continents the Ebony Siddhartha Gautama (or Buddha) found its place on my shelf. A person who has set out on the long journey to discover the path to freedom from suffering, and then to teach it to others, is called a bodhisattva. As a traveler across several continents myself, I wouldn’t at all call myself a bodhisattva, but I’ll claim the statue of him as rightfully mine. This one, was picked up somewhere in Asia from either my father’s father, or my father’s grandfather, both being merchant mariners. Our Buddha has been passed down to their sons for 4 generations, and after my father died in 86, my mother has been hanging on to him ever since. Finally on one of my travels back to the old country (Norway), not at all a trip of discovery to freedom I might add, but an overdue honeymoon with my wonderful wife Rebecca, I decided to take him home with me. The Johnsen Buddha will stay here in Avondale until one of my three sons are ready to take him on to the next temporary place of residence.
